When we moved to Dorris I was quickly recruited by Lion Bob Lucas to join the Dorris Lions Club. I did so without hesitation, following in my father’s footsteps. I became very active in both the community and in my kids lives; but my wife will say that I gave all my time to the job and to others. I was living an American Dream and I am a volunteer at heart!
I have concentrated on bettering the image of my small rural community by using the Lions Club Emblem and Organization to give credibility and strength. I have held several leadership roles and positions within the club and seen many good Lions Club members pass on. It is partly in their memory that I push myself forward for the betterment of the club, community and fellow LIONS. I love what Lions Clubs stand for and witnessed firsthand what the organization has done for the Butte Valley, CA community where I live.
I am still learning about Lions Clubs as a whole and I am very involved in other organizations where my time is in high demand. I have a hard time saying “no” when it comes to volunteering for a worthy cause. My organizational skills are in need of fine tuning, but I am interested, and constantly encouraged, to take the next steps in Lionism. I believe that I’m a person of moral integrity who’s interested in enhancing the mission and humanitarian involvement of Lions Clubs. It is such a great organization comprised of truly great human beings. I pray that I’m worthy.
Won’t you join me as we work the theme this year of “Leading by Example”?
